I got the HD DVD pictures from a thread Xylon started in the avsforum.
I read how people think upscaled dvd isn't so bad compared to hd dvd.
So, I figured I would create a comparison.

:o WOW! OK, time to upgrade my HTPC to HD/Blu-ray playback. That's just not even close.
I recently had to take my HTPC offline for some hardware issues. It was being used for DVD/ripped DVD playback with Theatertek. (using Purevideo, and FFdShow) In its place, we put a temp standalone DVD player. It's been so long since I've seen standard DVD playback on my 61" DLP, I was shocked. I couldn't see a damn thing. I had to crank the DLP settings all the way up to see anything.
Seeing HD DVD compared to the FFdShow content isn't even funny. I thought my eyes hurt looking at the standalone player's feed.
Now, I just need to get past the WAF to pick up one of those LG GGC-H20L combo player's.
Thanks for opening my eyes!
Wow I did not know what I was missing. I really hope this format war ends soon so I can get one.

That's a great comparison, what it shows is that really you can't beat a true 1080p source. Even great post-processing can't make up for the fact that the pixel data just isn't there on standard DVDs. Though standard DVDs can still look quite good.
