IR Receiver question

Since I've been looking for a new remote (close to pulling trigger on Harmony One), I've been thinking about the IR receiver I use - the Firefly mini - without any real software installed.  I know my OrigenAE X11 case has an IR Trans VFG/IR receiver, but I've never used the receiver.  Is there a way I can use the IR receiver with a Harmony remote and some software (say EventGhost) to control SageTV?

I think I've still got the remote that came with the case - I'll have to see if it picks up my current Harmony 720 signals...

Or can I stuff a different IR receiver in there - not sure if I really need the VFD - don't use it now really.

As long as something like EventGhost can receive the commands via the IR receiver, you'll be good to go.  You just configure Sage to use an external device and EventGhost would relay the information to Sage for you.  This is how people--myself included--use EventGhost and a USB-UIRT to control Sage.

If you get creative, you could try disassembling a USB-UIRT and mounting it inside the case.  I was very close to trying this, but decided I didn't mind the external device all that much.

I couldn't figure out how to get EventGhost to receive commands from either my firefly mini (HID recognized) IR receiver, or the IRtrans IR receiver built into my case.

Because I've got a Harmony remote, it looks like it will work best with a MCE receiver.  I've been looking at some but am not sure if the Vista MCE remote/receiver combos will work with XP Pro SP3.  Anyone know?

Will this one work?

When you tried the firefly mini, did you install the Generic HID plugin and add it to your configuration? It should be installed by default, but still needs to be added to the config file you are working on for it to be active.

it was installed by default... but... um.. ya... I'm not sure I added it to a config file... I tried to figure it out but didn't really get anything to work.

How do you create a config file and add things to it?
