This may be a fine example of the pitfalls of DVR/PVR's, but the same could hold true for recording on a VCR: wrong channel, wrong time, wrong day. Then there's the other issues of the "classic" VCR: flashing 12:00, bad tape, write protected tape, not enough tape. It's all possible with anything you use to record a show, not just DVR/PVR's. Just something to keep in mind for those considering switching to a DVR/PVR.
Is DVR/PVR Worth the Risk?
Speaking as a Liverpool supporter, you didn't miss much. :'(
lol, i heard y'all got robbed, sorry 'mate
yeah, no doubt VCR is worse, my point was on the negative of using any sort of recording device at all. and i'm with you lothar, i live with it. might be a little more cautious next time, or maybe try harder to see an event like that. TV Shows don't bother me because something like Lost you can always stream the next day & it really doesn't matter.
Thankfully not everyone's DVR forgot what day/time it was.

oh, Lothar, just saw this. Fox wants to apologize to you: http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/05/25/fox-apologizes-for-idol-finale-running...
This happens more offen than I care to tell. SageTV is not the most stable platform in the world but I live with it because I like the features. Anyways, I've never truely missed a show I really wanted because I can always torrent it. I did however, miss the ending of american idol. If Google hadn't spoiled it for me by placing it front and center, I probably would have cared. And by the way, I only watch American Idol because I love the sound of my system ;D
Ok, you folks have jinxed me.
I was heading out yesterday afternoon and saw a game on that I wanted to watch. So I record it and the show after, just in case.
Well, not only did I not get to see the game because they cut to a different game. But the game they cut back to ran long due to a 50 min rain delay. So needless to say, I didn't even get to finish that game either.

Well I for one feel so much better now that they've appologized to me personally... :

I had a similar issue with a couple of season finales that I was looking forward to. Something ran late before one of them so I missed the last 5 minutes. Another ran longer than usual (2 hours I'm guessing) but the program guide still said it was one hour long. I almost missed the finale of American Idol because it ran over by a couple of minutes. Luckily I was watching that one almost real time so I caught up (I love auto commercial skipping
) right as the recording "ended" and was able to catch the end live. But I live with the quirks and life goes on.
