Comcast Flubs ESPN3D Rollout
It’s always risky to wait on a deployment until it matters, so to make sure everything was in order I contacted Comcast two weeks before to make sure my set top box (STB) was “3D ready”. Feeling good that Comcast had done at least some legwork based on the script the customer service representative (CSR) walked me through – 1) Do you have a 3D capable TV? 2) Do you have an HD cable box? – I felt pretty good when he told me it would just work. To be sure I had him check the STB’s model number; again I was assured that everything would just work.
But when I came home from work on the 11th expecting to get my 3D on, as you've probably guessed by now, things didn't go smoothly. To make a long (and incredibly frustrating-hard-to-tell-without-cursing) story short, I needed a new STB and a truck-roll to get it. Well today the new box arrived, but there's still no ESPN3D.
Incredibly, and despite all of the press around the roll out and the FAQ on the website, ESPN3D is not available in my area - and won't be until August 4th, just in time for... hmm... nothing. Some highlights from the FAQ below.
